SUSTAINABLE LEADER DEVELOPMENT IS THE KEY TO TRANSFORMATION

Danone and working on their Breakthrough Mindset

The Danone Group came to Breakthrough at a time of major strategic change. They wanted to build a New Danone; Bringing Health Through Food. Danone are proud of their organisational values, but realised that they needed to transform their culture to energise this ambitious strategic change.

Danone identified sustainable leadership development as the key to their transformation, and as an outcome of their initial Breakthrough Programme, they created the Danone Leadership College (DLC) to leverage the talent of their leaders to achieve business success.

To reach this goal, Danone needed to actualise transformation at an individual, team and business unit level. They knew they had to touch a critical mass of leaders, so they approached Breakthrough to design, deliver and deploy the DLC by using Breakthrough’s Tools Technology Transfer Model.

BREAKTHROUGH APPROACH

We worked closely with the central design team and partnered with individual business units worldwide to identify the specific behavioural changes necessary to embed Danone’s distinctive ‘Leadership Culture’. Once defined, we mapped specific Breakthrough Tools and Technology against this leader framework.

Four high-performance leadership behaviours were identified at the Executive Committee level. These were used to distinguish the characteristics of a Danone Leader and created the foundation of the Danone Leadership CODE (Committed, Open, Doers, Empowering). The customised Programme and materials included:

BEHAVIORAL CHANGE

With the help of a Global Design Team, each behavior was fully defined at a central L&D level to include 4-6 detailed facets within each behavior. This included leaders from across the Business and Breakthrough. Breakthrough Tools were mapped against each of the four leadership behaviors.

TOOLS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER

TOOLS TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER (T3) PROGRAMME

This was deployed through a customised Breakthrough T3 Programme including European-wide licensing, Breakthrough events and Internal Facilitator-led sessions. We trained and accredited 500 Internal Facilitators to reach 13,000 associates with the Breakthrough Tools, via the Danone Leadership College.

Added Value

ADDED-VALUE MATERIAL

Customized added-value material including Toolkit cards, videos, and bespoke anchoring materials were distributed across the business.

The vision is now embedded in recruitment, talent selection, review and individual performance assessment.
